Sourav Ganguly in 7000 Ivy League
Dada's day out at 7000 club!
While the cricketing fraternity celebrated Sachin Tendulkar's most run feat, Sourav Ganguly quietly moved past a milestone when he became the fourth Indian batsman to cross 7000 runs in Tests.
The Prince of Kolkata, who retired from international cricket after the four-Test series with Australia at home soil, crossed the milestone while on 40 after gliding a Johnson delivery to sweeper cover for a double.
So many people as usual commented at several forums that Sourav is not a great test batsman. For those so called critics, there comes another slap from Sourav's bat. The hard fact is - the only other three members of the 7000-club from India is - Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid. Stalwart players like Vengsarkar (6868) and Azhar(6215) are even unable to reach the covetous height. Sourav Ganguly is the 33rd batsman in world cricket to cross the 7,000-run mark in Tests.
En route to his 7000 landmark, Sourav crossed one after another Lane Hutton -6971 Jaysurya -6973 and Don Bradman -6996 in total test runs.
Every one had the question in mind - before final call , will Sourav be able to notch up some more runs to cross Greg Chappell (7110) , Ex NZ skipper Flemming (7172) or current Indian coach Gary Kirstein (7289) ?
And Yes, Sourav (7212) did it with élan as he crossed Greg Chappell (7125).He also crossed Flemming though came very close to Kirstein.
