Even as Sourav Ganguly chose not to comment on his exclusion from the Rest of India squad for the Irani Trophy, former Bengal cricketers came in support for left-handed batsman saying that he can 'stage a comeback anytime'
Not seeing much into the recent selection, former India batsman Arun Lal said Ganguly is a great batsman who can make a comeback anytime.
"It's selectors' decision... who am I to comment on it but I can just say that don't write him off at any point of time. We have seen this in the past... how he made a tremendous comeback with a string of good and determined innings..." the 53-year-old said.
Having seen Ganguly make his debut when he was representing Bengal in the Ranji Trophy winning 1989-90 season, Lal added, "He has a fighting spirit and is a fantastic batsman. It will be wrong to say it's all over for Ganguly."
Earlier, when contacted, Ganguly said, "I've no comments to make."
Disappointed at the decision of selectors to leave out Ganguly, Bengal's newly-appointed coach Utpal Chatterjee said, "It's unfair... He is such a senior cricketer and treatment like this is uncalled for. Now Ganguly has to perform well in the upcoming domestic season to make a comeback again."
Supporting Lal, the former Indian left-arm spinner felt that Ganguly has still much left in him.
"He knows his game best and we all hope that he will again prove the selectors wrong by making a strong comeback," Chatterjee added.
